Speech by Diarmuid MacDubhglais, Sinn Féin Poblachtach Roinn Gnóthaí Idirnáisiúnta, given at an Anti-imperialist Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, April 2014.

Comrades, let me begin by thanking the organisers for inviting me to speak here on behalf of the Republican movement in Ireland. It is important to our POW’s to know that there are people at home and overseas that know of their plight and know that the struggle for which they have been jailed is a just and legitimate one. I will start by quoting a statement recently received from the POWs in Maghaberry jail. In a statement on April 7, the Continuity POWs in Roe 3, Maghaberry jail,

“We wish to thank all those who have supported them down the years. We will continue to demand political status, an end to the barbaric practice of strip-searching and controlled movement [the right to free association].

Statement by Des Dalton President of Republican Sinn Féin

It is with great sadness that Sinn Féin notes the passing of Tony Benn. He was truly a man of the highest integrity and principle who was fearless in speaking truth to power and privilege. His famous five questions to be put to those in power are a template for real democratic engagement by people with the political process and a challenge to unaccountable power elites everywhere:

Address to the International Symposium against Isolation, Amsterdam, January 2014 PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 25 January 2014 14:30

Diarmuid MacDubhghlais, member of the Ard Comhairle (National Executive) of Republican Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ireland.

I will start by saying to all of you here that I am NOT a member of the Sinn Fein that has Gerry Adams and Martin Mc Guinness as their leaders. To me and my comrades these two and all their followers/members are traitors to a free and united Ireland and also are collaborators with Imperialists the world over by encouraging freedom fighters to lay down their arms and accept unjust and unfair subjugation by either foreign or domestic powers. They are paid vast sums of money by their masters; the British Crown, to administer the puppet administration in the occupied six counties of my land, they also travel the world at the behest of various Imperialist governments on so-called “peace missions”.

It is this realisation which must inform our thinking and also gives us heart as we once more take up the banner of Irish Republicanism in 2014.
Mandela inspires all engaged in the struggle for freedom and justice PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 December 2013 17:22

Statement by the President of Republican Sinn Féin Des Dalton

Nelson Mandela was and remains an inspirational figure for all who are engaged in the struggle for human freedom and national self-determination. His life story is a story of the triumph of the human spirit when faced with seemingly overwhelming state repression and brutality.

In Ireland we salute the memory of a man prepared to spend 27 years of his life in prison rather than compromise on the fundamental principles of the struggle for a free South Africa.  He was a statesman but also a soldier and as leader of Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation) was prepared to bring the fight directly to the apartheid South African State. During the negotiations for the new post-apartheid when the idea of partitioning South Africa in order to create a white-dominated statelet was mooted Mandela rejected the notion immediately saying that he did not want to see a South African Ulster being created.
